Meet this cozy cottage cutie, a daily delight on my commute to and from my office.
Her simplistic cottage architecture is dressed in a shade somewhere between Tiffany’s Blue and Robin’s Egg Blue. She offers a quaint presence on our street in my hometown. In fact, you might even
drive right by her and pay her no mind. But I can’t help and glance up in her direction each day.
I love her color, (I mean what girl doesn’t love Tiffany’s Blue…) but I also love the bay window centered under the prominent high peaked roof, in its asymmetrical location—a signature of American cottage architecture.
For me, cottage architecture harkens to a simpler time, when we worked 9 – 5 and work stayed at work and our home life belonged to us. Weekends meant exactly that; the week ended. The weekends were dedicated to family and friends, rest and relaxation, home projects and chores.
As our lives grew more complex, it seems so did our houses with sprawling floor plans and, in some cases, rooms that are barely used. (How many rooms with couches does one need?)
The simplistic Cottage floor plan usually includes a kitchen, living room, dining room, 3-4 bedrooms, and usually 1 bathroom. Sometimes, if you’re lucky enough, your cottage will have a screened in porch and a detached garage such as this lucky lady.
Perhaps, I have a romantic notion that it is easier to live life simply if what I live in is simple and uncomplicated.
To the owners of this cottage cutie, I am grateful you have maintained her simplicity through all these years. Well done, you!
